One of the many churches in the small town of Kutna Hora
Today I tried to join a tour of Kutna Hora that was cancelled due to lack of interest. Maybe I should have seen that as a forecast of the excitement level of Kutna Hora. I heard from some girls at the hostel that the town was cute, relaxing and unique with the Kostnice Ossuary, a church that was constructed in 1511 to house the bones from abolished graves.
So I set off on the train solo wearing my new and long sought after sandals. Strappy, black and what I thought to be a winner, turned out to be a fail!!!
Sunday again leaves me with limited transportation options in the small town so my trip began and ended with a trek from the train station to the town itself. I stopped by a little cafe to get some coffee and a bit of lunch and set off from what were the big events. The Church of St. Barbara and the Kostnice Ossuary.
Neither of the sights were as amazing as I had hoped. I spent about twenty minutes in the Church of St. Barbara admiring the stained glass work and the unique ceiling decorations. With my shoes already starting to pinch I decided to move onto the next stop, the bone church.

The interesting ceiling at St. Barbara
The Kostnice Ossuary was considered a holy place in 1511 because of the sprinkling of holy soil brought back form Golgotha. The chapel was then constructed and the site became extremely popular.

Self Portrait in the Kostnice Ossuary...creepy place.

By now my feet are bleeding as the the strappy straps that were oh, so adorable at 10 a.m. have now become the thing I curse with every step at 2 p.m. I concede and sit at the train station with my copy of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and wait patiently for the train back. Upon my arrival in the hostel I threw those shoes away with such anger that the guys unpacking in the dorm room laughed and inquired. We got talking and then went out to see a of a local artist during what seems to be an performance week with shows happening all around the city. It was quaint but interesting and a great break from hanging at the hostel.
